About Us

Government of Nepal established Nepal transit and Warehousing Company Limited (NTWCL), a fully owned government entity, on September 15,1971 (Bhadra 30,2028 B. S.) to provide reliable as well as economical transit and warehousing facilities for the import and export of Nepal to and from the oversea countries. Under the provisions of the 1971 Treaty of Transit between Nepal and India,  the Company functions as representative of the Government to provide warehousing facilities at Haldia port open land spaces, India and conduct all the transit related activities. NTWCL, is duly registered in both Nepal and India.

 1.      Objectives

  • To ensure reliable as well as economical transit facilities for the export and import trade of Nepal.
  • To provide smooth and expeditious clearing and forwarding services to exports and imports with the third countries.
  • To operate warehousing and similar other storage facilities at ports,  rail heads and transit points to facilitate the export and import traffics of Nepal in a convenient manner.
  • To reduce transit cost by providing   in lieu of duty insurance undertaking on Nepal’s import.
  • To provide transit information services to Nepalese exporters and importers.
  • To conduct research and study on transit and infrastructure development in order to improve transit transport operation.



In order to achieve its objectives, NTWCL has been rendering the following services.

A. Warehousing services;

The company provides warehousing facilities at important transit points such as Kolkata, Haldia, Rexaul in India and kakarvitta in Nepal  as per provisions of the protocol  of Indo-Nepal Treaty of  Transit. Government of India has provided on lease to NTWCL the following warehouse and open spaces at the premises of  Kolkata port  Trust (CPT) and Haldia for the storage of  transit of cargo.

Apart from the above warehouses and open land spaces provided by the Government of India, NTWCL has been operating its warehousing services also at the following transit heads.

NTWCL also aims at engaging in operation of modern warehouses and Inland Clearance Depot (ICDs) at various transit points to render the most reliable, efficient and safe storage facilities to the traffic in transit to/from Nepal with objectives of reducing transit costs.

 B.     Clearing and forwarding Services.

NTWCL also provide clearing and forwarding services to Nepalese cargoes-in-transit through Indian customs. The company started these clearing and forwarding services from mid June 1983. Since then it has been smoothly conducting the clearing and forwarding services for transit cargo of Government of Nepal and various other associations, organizations and public corporations at competitive rates.

 C.  Undertaking Services;

According to the provisions of the Indo-Nepal treaty of transit importers/exporters are required to make a duty insurance equal to the Indian Customs Duty on the Nepalese transit cargo in case of loss, pilferage etc. while in transit within the Indian territory. NTWCL in lieu of this duty, provide guarantee-undertaking service for the import cargo of Government of Nepal and Government owned organizations from November 9, 1982.

 D.  Transit Information Services;

The transit Information center at Head office supplies up-dated transit information regarding shipping documentations, ports, marines, customs, warehousing, railways, road transportation and other transit transport networks to Nepalese importers and exporters.

 E.  Other Transit Networks

 I.    Haldia Port:

Haldia Port, situated in the south of Kolkata towards the Diamond Harbour is 135km. far from Kolkata city NTWCL has its own office building along with staffs residential house at this port. This sub- branch is controlied by the Kolkata branch. It provides container yard facilities with an approximate capacity of 2360.00sq. meters of open land spaces at the Haldia-Dock Interior Zone.

 II.  Radhikapur (Indo-Bangladesh Border)

To provide facilities for import and export traffics of Nepal to/from Bangladesh, NTWCL has been rendering Undertaking and Clearing services through its sub- Branch office at Radhikapur. This sub-Branch office is under control of the Branch office at Kolkata.

 III. Phulbari-Banglabandh (Indo-Bangladesh Border)

To provide facilities for import and export traffic of Nepal to/from Bangladesh and via Bangladesh, NTWCL has been rendering Undertaking and Clearing services through its branch office established also at Kakarvitta. Ever since the opening of this transit route, NTWCL has been working as an Authorized  Agent of Government of Nepal to carryout clearing undertaking services and all others.

IV.  Operation of ICD at Birgunj in joint venture.

V.    Develop, Operate and Manage Cargo Terminal Complex at Tribhuvan International Airport.

 Future Program:

  • Development of Container Freight Station at CGR Road,Kolkata and within Haldia-Dock System, Haldia (India)
  • Development of Container Freight Station at Kathmandu.
  • Conduct feasibility study for the development of facilities at the main custom points and ICD's within the Kingdom of  Nepal and in the transit-countries.
  • Provide transit information services.
